Am I the only one who finds rich irony in Teddy "Breaststroke" Kennedy lauding John "Effing" Kerry for his actions in Vietnam? Seems Teddy was telling an audience that Kerry had performed heroically (which is not in dispute) when a Special Forces trooper was blown off his small PBR during combat. Kerry turned the boat around and still under fire, went back to pick up the trooper, saving his life. According to Teddy "Breaststroke" Kennedy, Kerry would never leave anyone behind. Like I said, rich irony or doesn't "Chappaquiddick" mean anything to you. I know theres a family named Koepechne who wishes a certain Kennedy had exhibited some courage on a drunken night in the 60's.....

Now then it being Friday, I don't have to tell you all what that means.....I thought that given the recent discovery of documents in Iraq purporting to show Saddam Hussein bribing France's Jacques Chirac for their Security Council vote prior to the war, a bit of anti-french sentiment would do nicely. Given that...here she is....Jenny "Belly Girl" Hewitt....try to read the sign....

What a bloodbath in New Hampshire last night. John "Effing" Kerry pulled off a big victory and "Howling" Howie Dean is now headed to the dustbin of democratic presidential candidates. Of course this is just where it gets good. Dean made no concessions last night and we can still hope for a brokered convention. Better still, a third party candidacy a'la Ross Perot in 1992. John "Breck Girl" Edwards took a hit yesterday by finishing fourth. Takes some of the steam out of his Iowa momentum. Ashley Clark staunched the bleeding for the moment but Joe Lieberman has finally had someone whisper in his ear that he is NOT going to be President this year or ever.

Now the race swings south and west. Things will happen quickly next week. Despite my fervent hopes, I think that Kerry picks up huge victories next week based on his surge in the polls now after New Hampshire and the correspondent surge in campaign contributions. Smart money takes Kerry at this point to be the nominee. Thats fine. His record in the Senate is abysmally liberal and his wife's voice is nearly as grating as Hilary Clinton's. Both of them reek of elitism and privilege. Besides, the Clinton's will never let Kerry win, not now, that would make Hilary have to wait in the wings until 2012 and she'll be too long in the tooth then.

Long and the short of it..."Breck Girl" may pick up South Carolina next week but Kerry is within striking distance and the big prize is Missouri. A state that President Bush should win handily come November. If I'm putting money on this race at the Hilton Sportsbook, I take Kerry just about everywhere depending on what the new round of polling shows in the wake of New Hampshire.

Now then, last week I post a picture of your humble pundit meeting former President Bush. Later that day I was able to meet Col. Alexander Lemberes and Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf. Here's some more pics from the reunion of those two grand warriors....

Well if memory serves, it took our founding fathers, 11 years from our Declaration of Independence to drafting our Constitution. Much of this time we were at war with England and fighting for our survival. Well some of you are asking no doubt, "Why the history lesson Smilin' Paul?" Well today Afghanistan enacted it's new democratic constitution merely 2 years after the fall of the Taliban. The next time some lefty asks you why we are fighting this War on Terror, you might direct them to the 25 million freed Afghans. Not that it would work, the left not being noted for working well when confronted with reality, logic and facts.

Tonight at midnight EST, the voters of New Hampshire will begin casting their ballots in the democratic primary. Here's hoping "Howlin'" Howie Dean can make the comeback. If you know any registered independent voters in New Hampshire, call them, e-mail them, telegram them but get them to the polls and have them vote for "Howlin'" Howie. He needs all the help he can get. Poor ol' Joe, he'll be done after tomorrow and then the race moves south. I think if Howie can hang on, it'll be a three horse race between him and John "Effing" Kerry and John "Breck Girl" Edwards. Funny thing, Ashley Clark was supposed to give the democrats badly needed military credibility. Instead he's sinking like the Bismarck in the polls and has shown himself to be more certifiable than "Howlin' " Howie.

Now then, on to this week's recipe. I won't be putting out a recipe next week for a couple reasons. First I'm having some minor surgery on Monday and second, while in recovery I'll need to catch up on my online classes. So enjoy this week's recipe....Buttermilk Fried Chicken...

Ingredients
1 Broiler/Fryer Chicken cut up or 1 picnic pack of 12 drumsticks and thighs
1 c of all purpose flour
1/2 tsp black pepper
2 tsps paprika
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 c buttermilk
2 tbsps seasoned breadcrumbs
1/8 tsp garlic powder
vegetable oil

Combine flour, paprika, salt, pepper, breadcrumbs, garlic powder in a bowl. Take a 12" skillet with lid and add 1/4" vegetable oil to it. Heat over medium high heat until hot and then take pieces of your chicken, drop it in the cup of buttermilk and then dredge it in the flour mixture. Then add the chicken to your oil. When you have the skillet full, brown all sides of the chicken, about 10 minutes or so, reduce the heat and cover the skillet, simmer for about 25-30 mins. Remove the cover and increase the heat, cook for 5 more minutes or so to crisp the skin. Remove and drain. I like to serve this with hot cornbread and potato salad. It makes for a finger lickin' good meal. Be sure to stay close to monitor the chicken as you don't want the skin burned or the oil splattering. Good Eatin' on ya!!

I know some of you probably thought I'd forgotten about today's Republicandy but fear not. I had the high honor and privilege this week of meeting some American heroes. I wrote about it on Free Republic and here is that post:

What a great day. Part of this week I was assigned to augment Secret Service with dignitary protection as the Safari Club International was in town. While working the assignment on Tuesday evening I had a chance to briefly meet Lt. Col. Oliver North, to shake his hand and thank him for his service to our country. That was neat but Thursday was the best.

That morning I was able to meet and shake hands with the 41st President of the United States, President George Herbert Walker Bush. I thanked him too for his lifetime of service to our country and got my picture taken next to him along with the rest of the detectives that worked the detail.

Thursday afternoon, as thanks for a job well done, a photo shoot and greeting was arranged inside the Convention Center. When we arrived, I was introduced to Col. Alexander Lemberes, CO of the 5th Special Forces Group in Vietnam from 1969-1970. When I thanked him for his service he began to weep and thanked me profusely, telling me that he doesn't often hear it.

Shortly thereafter, I was introduced to General Norman "Stormin' Norman" Schwarzkopf, CinC US CENTCOM during the 1st Gulf War. I was able to thank him as well and get my picture taken with him. While I was at it, I apologized for not having his book handy but managed to have him autograph a business card for me. All in all, not a bad day considering I was going to spend it typing up affidavits for arrest warrants.....

Now then, on to this week's Republicandy, actress Heather Locklear a perpetual favorite...

It appears as though the democrats aren't as stupid as I thought. Howie Dean's arrogance and petulance and his plain ol' mean spiritedness finally caught up to him. John Kerry pulled off a stunning upset yesterday and while I don't fret about facing off with "frenchy" in November, the spectre of President Bush having to campaign against articulate, young John "Breck Girl" Edwards is worrisome. Edwards doesn't have the requisite experience but that has never stopped democrats from electing someone before. Edwards may be a force to be reckoned with in the coming primaries in the South and while he isn't terribly popular in his native North Carolina, he is certainly preferable there than carpetbaggers Kerry and Dean.

On the other hand, Edwards campaign is broke and the leftwing among the dems hate him for his voting for the Iraq War resolution. Kerry has cash, but see above, is a Massachusetts liberal who looks like a frenchman and has a propensity for foul language. Of course he was a sailor once. Dean has plenty of money and had probably been really looking forward to saving some of that money for a general election campaign against President Bush. Now he is going to be forced to spend it on his very survival. Howie could blow an aneurysm anytime if last night's geography lesson to the public was any indicator. Of course, with money you maintain viability and Howie just needs to win New Hampshire and get his ship back on track. He has two pressing problems however named Kerry and General Ashley Clark. Clark is absolutely insane, frightening that this indecisive FOB managed to obtain high rank in our Army. On the other hand, his insanity appeals to democrats who right now according to polling have him in second place in New Hampshire.

New Hampshire could be a make or break deal for Howie but he does have the money to continue the fight long into the process. If that happens, should he lose a few more primaries, it'll be joy watching the kool aid line over DU. The deaniacs were absolutely inconsolable last night. If he loses New Hampshire, I'll have to call in a suicide watch for the netizens over at DU.

Now then, time to move along. Yesterday was the 197th birthday of General Robert E. Lee so I thought a little commemoration was in order and then I'll post this weeks recipe.

Now then, this week's recipe. Pancho's Free Range Texas Red Chili:

3- 3.5 lbs of good ground beef
2 oz New Mexico chili powder
1/2 tsp ground Cayenne pepper
4 cloves of garlic, chopped
2 tbsps olive oil
2 8 oz cans of tomato sauce
2 8 oz cans of water
salt and pepper to taste
1/4-1/2 tsp ground oregano
Masa flour

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil and saute the garlic. Once golden, add the ground beef and brown it, add a bit of black pepper and cover. Once browned all over, drain the beef thoroughly. Return the skillet to low heat and now add the New Mexico chili powder, cayenne pepper, tomato sauce, water and oregano. Stir thoroughly. Allow to simmer for 20 minutes and then mix again. Taste the sauce and add salt to your taste. You may also want to add more cayenne if the heat level isn't right for you. New Mexico chili is mild and produces a kind of dry heat which needs to be played with. You can also try a mix of New Mexico and California chili powders. Thats one of the fun things about chili, you can play with it as you go along and it's pretty forgiving. Keep simmering the mixture while you adjust the sauce to taste and once you've achieved what you want, allow it to simmer another 20 minutes. Now if the mixture is too thin for your taste, you can thicken it up by mixing a small amount of masa flour in a bowl with water. No more than a couple tbsps because it goes a long way. Make a paste and add it to the chili mixture. Stir it up and allow to simmer for 5-10 mins or so. It should thicken up nicely.

I like to serve my chili with chopped onion and cheddar on top and a side of refried beans. Usually a cold beer makes a nice accompaniment as well but as I'm combatting a cold, I had to settle for a bit of corn squeezin's. Good Eatin' on you...

Saddest weekend of the year...every year. Thats the weekend that the Christmas lights come down off the house which officially closes out my personal Christmas season. Christmas season begins for me on November 1 and I'm lucky enough to have an understanding bride who puts up with this small quirk. Of course, this late in January means football playoffs and the also rans have been sent home...now it comes down to the Carolina Panthers and the New England Patriots. My money says Patsies...

Well speaking of sporting events, that goatrope known as the democratic primary season begins tomorrow and then the Presidential election will be truly underway. Smilin' Paul plans on a quiet day commemorating my son's distant cousin, General Robert E. Lee's birthday. This weeks recipe is going to be Pancho's Planicie Libre Texas Red chili so I'll be whipping up a pot of "Texas Red" tomorrow and some refried beans. We'll get that going early on so the beans can simmer nice and long and really soak up the flavors of the chorizo and that good Nevada ground beef can absorb all the chili and seasonings while it's simmering away. Should all be done around the time the first results come in from Iowa and I can post the recipe and my commentary on the democrat ground battle for Iowa. Smart money says it doesn't matter, G.W. Bush takes Iowa in November...see y'all tomorrow...

This is great.....3 days to go before the Iowa caucuses and John "Frenchy" Kerry is pulling off a surprise come from behind showing. This could get really interesting. If the democrat race for president actually tightens up, I can't wait to go to Democratic Underground and read the self loathing, hate filled, kool-aid drinking, clinton worshipers analysis of the candidates. Kerry was written off over at DU as an establishment hack and not "progressive" enough. Of course to those intellectually challenged netizens over there, Chairman Mao would only barely qualify as "progressive" enough. Of course you all realize that progressive is the left's new code word for liberalism.

Knowing that the American public's general disdain for rampant liberalism, they have the past few years moved to adopt the term "progressive". I for one refuse to let them. It's like the specious claim of the left that "Bill Clinton was almost impeached". No, he WAS impeached by the House of Representatives, he was not removed by the Senate." Civics lesson over. Back to "Froggy" Kerry and his last minute broken field run. If he can pull this off, it'll be a major upset with the campaign swinging next into New England and Howie Dean's hometurf. But then the field moves south and then it'll get real interesting to see who can develop new sources of campaign funding where Dean now has a commanding lead. Stay tuned.

Now then, Friday means Republicandy and in light of the flap over immigration, I thought I'd honor syndicated columnist and author of a book critical of immigration policy, INVASION. Here is Michelle Malkin.

A quick note of "Taps" for the late campaign of Carol "Mostly Fraud" Moseley Brown. She never really had a hope in hell of winning the democrat nomination but did enjoy the media attention, face time on TV and public funding of some nice hotels and catered events. Not a bad gig all in all. Never mind that she was investigated for fraud, managed to lose her Senate seat in liberal Illinois to a Republican over ethical issues and was an appointee of IMPEACHED ex-president Clinton. That should have been enough to deep six her campaign from the beginning but we're forgetting a couple things here.

First off, as a black woman, Carol "Mostly Fraud" receives a pass from the so called adversarial press for any past sins.

As a democrat Carol "Mostly Fraud" must be treated with respect for her inherent gravitas.

But of course, theres no media bias in this country. I forgot. Just bow your heads in silent tribute for a moment to acknowledge the accomplishments of this pioneering, industrious, brilliant woman and her tragic bid to become President of the United States. I know I will...ok..moment is over. Nothing to see here, move along now.

The word on the street is that President Bush and his junta had made plans to invade Iraq and depose Saddam Hussein long before Sept. 11, 2001. The word was first brought to light by former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Niell in his just released book. Of course this is all the word the leftists and democrats need to begin attacking the President for pursuing his foreign policy. I'm here to tell you. This story has zero...repeat zero legs. O'Neill made the rounds of the talking head forums over the weekend pumping sales and telling anyone who would listen that he is no disgruntled ex-employee. After all he's rich and old and they (presumably the same they that fly the black helicopters and have arranged the unholy alliance of the Bush and Bin Laden Empires) can't hurt him.

Of course the socialists are jumping for joy that a former Bush cabinet member is now running off at the mouth accusing the administration of plotting war on Iraq long before the Sept. 11 attacks. Hold the horses there commies. First off, O'Neill was never a team player and he had plenty of run ins with the Bush administration during his tenure. O'Neill had a reputation as some one who shot off his mouth before he engaged his brain. A type who could easily be seen as not a team player. A churlish little boy who would pick up his ball and go home if not given his way.

Next, if you saw the SECRET memos that O'Neill provided the talking heads as his basis for the allegations about Bush and Iraq, you would have noted that some of them were dated January 2001. President Bush had been in office only a matter of days at the time of those memos being time stamped. Anyone with an IQ above a toaster (which eliminates a great deal of democrat voters) would realize that these memos had to have been studied and written by bureaucrats put in place during the previous administration. For those of you on the left, that would be the administration of IMPEACHED ex-president Clinton.

Lastly, for those of you with little to no knowledge of the military let me explain why a memo outlining war with Iraq is no bombshell. The U.S. Military habitually renews and revises war plans for every nation on earth. Yes, I would wager that somewhere in the vaults at the Five Sided Sodom on Potomac, there is even a contingency war plan for war with Great Britain, our staunchest ally. This is what we pay them for. Preparedness because as the Romans understood, those who would avoid war, prepare for it. Of course we had plans to invade Iraq. Naturally, any comprehensive war plan would make provision for post war administration. We are not the Huns, Visigoths or Mongols. When we break something, we inevitably spend a fortune in taxpayer dollars rebuilding it for our former enemies.

In any event, the O'Neill story is a non-starter.....besides, I'm much more bent out of shape by the immigration proposal than any Iraqi warplan no matter when it was conceived. I'm going to have more to say about this proposal this week I'm sure but I need to study it some more. Now then let's get on to food.

I admit it, I cheat, I love the crock pot. It is such a useful tool and this is the perfect time of year to put it to use. Let some tough ol' leathery piece of meat cook in that thing for 8-12 hrs and you have transformed meat from unchewable to falling off the bone tender. Add that function to the fact that we buy a 1/4 beef every year means there is no shortage of grass fed beef roasts to throw in the cooker. Today we enjoyed a round bone roast with vegetables and it was soooo easy.

1 beef roast, (chuck, 7 bone or round bone are all good)
1 jar, 4 oz. of prepared horseradish
salt and pepper to taste
1 can of Swanson's beef broth
2 celery stalks sliced about 1/4"
4 small potatos quartered
1 can of green beans
1 package of frozen vegetables, (my pack contained cauliflower, lima beans, carrots and broccoli.)

Season the roast with salt and pepper. Then coat it with the jar of horseradish. Place the roast into the cooker and pour in the beef broth. Set it on high and let it go for two hours. After an hour, add the vegetables and turn the heat down to low. Let it go all day. I cooked mine for about 9 hrs and it was fork tender. Serve it up with nice french bread and you have a wonderful comfort style meal that'll stick to your ribs and warm you up on a cold winter night. Next weeks recipe is going to be Pancho's Planicie Libre Texas Red Chili....Good eatin' on ya!!

Even after stewing on it for a day and tuning into both Rush and Hannity to listen to the great debate rage, I am still not convinced that this immigration proposal makes good sense at this time. (Hey you lefties always accuse us conservatives of being nothing but mouthpieces for Rush so I thought I'd indulge your stereotypes...) That being said, I did receive a missive from Redline, my crimefighting partner, who found a rather poor attempt to galvanize Americans against this proposal. Sometimes we are our own worst enemies, I will post the message here and then spend sometime on some of the salient points, here it is.....

Despite opposition from an OVERWHELMING majority of Americans, President
Bush has decided that Hispanic votes in November's election are more
important than the integrity, sovereignty and security of the United States. The President has unveiled a plan that would grant blanket amnesty to some 8
to 11 million criminal aliens residing illegally in the U.S. This not only
rewards criminal behavior-it encourages more of the same!

It's hard to argue that point. What part of ILLEGAL don't people understand? Rewarding this behavior legitimizes it, reduces any stigma attached to it and de facto presents an incentive for breaking the law.

WE MUST STOP THIS PROPOSAL!

The President frequently repeats that "we are a nation of immigrants" and
that there's "work that no other Americans will do, so these illegal aliens
are needed to man the jobs." BALONEY!

I agree with the President here. There are millions of jobs that a large portion of the American populace will not perform. I see this daily, entire construction crews and ranch crews composed of Mexicans because it is hard, dangerous work and no one else will take the jobs.

The hard-working entrepreneurs from centuries ago braved dangerous journeys
and death in order to not only come to America, but to BECOME AMERICANS!

This is a poor point. Certainly the trip across the Atlantic was dangerous. I would argue that walking across the Sonoran desert or crossing the Rio Grande, braving starvation, thirst, predators both animal and man, searing heat and bone chilling cold are every bit as dangerous.

The ILLEGAL aliens of today have ZERO plan or desire to assimilate to our
country. They don't speak English and NEVER will. They no nothing of our
culture or customs and NEVER will!

A presumptuous point. While many have no plans to assimilate, many will. I come across Latinos every day who have been here for 8, 10, 20 years and cannot converse in English. This is largely because our porous borders have contributed to the establishment of entire colonies within our cities where the only spoken language is Spanish. Illegal Aliens can come to America, work, live and play here and never have to converse in English except on the rare excursion outside of the colony. Even then, it is usually no trick to find an interpreter should you really need one precisely because of the situation above. I would have a lot less heartburn with this proposal if citizenship was conditional upon demonstrated ability in English and if English were made the official language.

The White House has NO plan to stop future invasions-in fact, with this new
policy, illegal immigration is ENCOURAGED! This will SEVERELY harm our national security!

I'm sure the White House has no plan to stop the immigration invasion. What other country on earth is denied the right to enforce it's borders? In their defense though, the Bush family truly seems to live what they preach. Growing up in Texas, they were continually exposed to the Hispanic culture. Mexican food is the President's favorite, he speaks Spanish, and his brother, (a potential president in his own right) is fluent in Spanish, married a Mexican woman and his children are bilingual. It is not merely lip service in this family.

Illegal immigrants in California and Arizona are already BANKRUPTING schools
and hospitals because they don't pay for the services! All this at the
expense of tax-paying, LEGAL Americans! This is destroying our communities! The President even wants illegal immigrants to be able to COLLECT SOCIAL
SECURITY. Social Security is already in arrears! Now President Bush wants
to start doling out retirement money to criminal non-residents???!!!

I don't know that this is destroying communities but I do believe that the fiscal crisis in California and Arizona is largely attributable to the hidden costs of illegal immigration. I know for fact that this happens as I am investigating a case of identity theft based on this very premise and a hospital is out tens of thousands of dollars. Now that doesn't sound like much but consider it is one case in probably tens of thousands and it adds up.

WE MUST ACT NOW!

WE MUST ACT OFTEN!

** Action to Take **

1. Call the White House and DEMAND that President Bush REVOKE this insane
policy proposal! Recall that The President introduced a similar plan two
years ago-but the outcry from grassroots patriots KILLED IT. We must do the
same AGAIN! White House Switchboard: (202) 456-1111 OR (202) 456-1414.

2. Call your Representative and tell him/her to work hard to DEFEAT The
President's illegal immigration proposal! Your Representative MUST know
that he or she has your support so that they can take action with
confidence! The White House will be lobbying our Representatives HARD-so we
must do the same! House Switchboard: (202) 225-3121.

3. Call BOTH of your Senators and tell them to work hard to DEFEAT The
President's illegal immigration proposal! AGAIN, they will be under
tremendous pressure from the White House-they must know you are in their
corner! Senate Switchboard: (202) 224-3121.

You all can make your own decisions based on the very healthy debate going on now. If you choose to contact your elected officials, I have provided the means above. Now then let's get back to bidness around here. It being Friday, that means Republicandy and since there's a rumor floating around that former Florida Secretary of State and current congresswoman, Katherine Harris is considering a run for Senate in Florida, I thought she would make some fine Republicandy. Here she is....

Ok I've got to admit I'm a little conflicted here folks. Of course I am hugely p.o.'ed at the President for this immigration proposal tendered yesterday. However I temper that anger with the thought that I have not fully read the proposal yet and so I may well find it less odious when I have truly studied it. I also remind myself that the alternative is to put into power, members of the Party of Sedition, democrats, who make absolutely no secret of their disdain for America, American values, American Culture and Americans themselves. Additionally, while I can castigate George W. Bush for this sellout of our sovereignity, I must also acknowledge that as a conservative, he has advanced several conservative causes. Let's take a look at some of those.

G.W. Bush has agressively prosecuted the War on Terror
G.W. Bush signed a ban on partial birth abortion
G.W. Bush passed the largest tax cuts in a generation
G.W. Bush has appointed conservative judges to the various Federal Courts

I could go on but you get the point. Today the President is being vilified by conservatives for his immigration proposal but as conservatives, we must remember that sometimes one must take the good with the bad and consider the alternative. I know some lefties around here might not believe that I ever disagree with El Jefe but I've had issues with Bush as well. Beyond immigration, I disagree with his stance on increased domestic spending and the campaign finance reform. That being said, I don't believe this immigration plan will make it through congress and if you are sufficiently p.o.'ed about it, then write your congressman and let them know it...you can do so here. I've already done my part....

And so it begins. The great struggle of 2004, the election. Of course the first to sling mud? Who else but the democrats and their minions over at Moveon.org. The oppressed liberals over there are sponsoring a competition to select an ad they intend to run in battleground states on behalf of the democrat nominee. Without logic, fact or reason on their side, what do the leftists come up with? Yet another in a string of ad-hominem assertions that Republicans are fascists and nazis and that George W. Bush is the embodiment of evil. This for instituting a doctrine as important now as was the Monroe Doctrine 200 years ago. The Bush Doctrine is simple, we will hunt down terrorists and their enablers no matter where they are or who they are, that the United States of America retains the right to defend herself against those who would harm her and that such defense may include preemptive strikes against terrorists, rogue nations or sponsors of terror.

So what comparison does the Bush Doctrine draw in leftist circles. Bush is Hitler. How original, I wish I had a buck for every time I've been called a fascist or a nazi in my lifetime. Maybe then I could become a full fledged capitalist instead of a jack booted thug in the employ of the government. Once again, when confronted with the desperation of a war being waged successfully, a resurgent economy and a President whose poll numbers are on the upswing, democrats revert to the tried and true tactics of childhood. (A spoiled childhood in the case of Howie Dean, why the Dean's didn't even treat their servants like servants...how touching.)

Having established the tactical nature of the democrat strategery for the campaign, i.e. continue to paint Republicans as nazis and fascists, I think that it's time for a little review. I refuse to cede the moral high ground to liberals on this issue. I am tired of being called a nazi or a fascist because I have conservative beliefs and principles. Therefore I feel a reminder is in order for those lefties that might stagger across this blog in one of their more sober moments. The American Right is founded on belief in individual liberty and responsibility. On free markets and rule of law. Communism and Fascism are characterized thus:

The difference between communists and fascists is in a very minor detail - the communists advocate the formal ownership of means of production by the state while fascists preserve nominal private ownership but totally control prodiction, distribution, prices and "profits".

So which do you prefer more - the state increasingly nationalising the economy or the state increasingly regulating/directing the economy and redestributing the income?

(This definition provided by a frequent contributor to the Aces High forums, callsign miko2d, to learn more about Aces High go here.)

Now then if we can agree that this is an accurate assessment of the nature of Communism and National SOCIALISM, then I submit that neither is an accurate reflection of the beliefs of the American Right, conservatives or Republicans. Additionally, neither Communism nor Fascism as political systems are renowned for their frequent elections. I always remind lefties that Nazis are in fact SOCIALISTS and that Nazism is a leftwing political system which usually leaves them speechless. Of course when confronted with facts and logic, that is the usual leftwing response short of calling you a fascist or nazi. So if the democrats want to run this election year on a campaign of painting the President as a fascist or a nazi, I say to them, you go girls...Come November, there'll be slaughter for the left because what they refuse to accept is that those of us in flyover country do not believe that America is the great satan. We leave that to the democrats, the french and the terrorists....

Now then, on to this week's recipe. New Years Linguine.

Ingredients
1 pkg of linguine noodles
8-12 large shrimp
8-12 mussels
1 can of salmon
1 can of lump crabmeat
1 14 oz can of stewed tomatos
1 14.5 oz can of coconut milk
2 5.5 oz cans of V8 vegetable juice
1 crown of broccoli
1 zucchini sliced thin
1/2 medium yellow onion, chopped
1 clove of garlic
2 tbsps of olive oil

OK this is easy, quick, delicious and healthy. First, remove the florettes from the crown of broccoli. Boil one gallon of water for the noodles. In the meantime, heat the olive oil in a large skillet and saute the onion and garlic. Once translucent, add the broccoli and zucchini. Cook for a few moments and add the stewed tomatos, V8 juice and coconut milk. (I used the coconut milk for a little asian flavor, for more of a traditional cioppino flavor, substitute tomato sauce or more V8 juice). Bring the mixture to a boil. When the vegetables have cooked down and the broccoli and zucchini are tender, add the shrimp, mussels, salmon and crabmeat. Cook until the shrimp turns pink and the mussels have all fully opened. This will only take a few minutes so keep an eye on it while you stir several times and season to taste with salt and pepper or tabasco sauce. Keep it simmering while you prepare your linguine noodles as you like. (I prefer al dente) When your pasta is done, drain it and then fold the noodles into the skillet containing the seafood mixture. If the skillet isn't large enough, you can serve the seafood over the noodles on a plate. This recipe will easily serve 3-4 adults so plan the seafood accordingly. Serve this up with a nice spinach salad and some warm french bread....good eatin' on you!!

Never let it be said that Smilin' Paul Villa has no sense of humor. Digging into the ol' e-mail bag I find this missive from reader John Cryer, Reno Nv. enjoy a good laugh at my expense.

Not so smiling Paul,

For years I've wondered about the color "Burnt Orange," where it came from, how it came to be named, etc. Well, Tuesday night I had an epiphany while sitting in Luxury box 3B at Qualcomm Stadium watching the University of Texas lose another Holiday Bowl. (1 out of 3 in the past 4 years isn't good).

The "Burnt" comes from Longhorns treatment on the field.

What a game! The Cougar Defense ran roughshod all over the Texas front-line and the punt game of all things helped secure the victory by putting the Horns on their own 5 for much of the first half.

Oh by the way I did remember your order;

1) 1 burnt orange University of Texas Holiday Bowl baseball cap:

$24

2) 1 burnt orange University of Texas Holiday Bowl T shirt (XL):

$24

3) Being able to wear my WSU Crimson and Silver Holiday Bowl stuff for a year to remind a friend that the Horns were lassoed:

PRICELESS

Have a happy New Year,

JC

So far, a pretty miserable week. I had hoped that Mac Brown could get the UT program turned around and to an extent he has. The Horns are usually ranked in the top 10 now but there seems to be a distressing inability to win the big game. Mac Brown can recruit with the best of them and Texas has landed top 5 recruiting classes for several years running. All of these stud hosses should produce better results in a bowl game...nuff said.

On the other hand, the next big game to look forward to is the Iowa caucus on Jan 19 when the implosion of the Party of Sedition proceeds all ahead 2/3s. By the time of the New Hampshire primary a week later, it'll be full speed ahead. Funny how the presumptive candidate, Howie "Nikita" Dean is wilting under the assault of his fellow presidential wannabees. On the other hand, I really need to don my tinfoil hat and wonder just how much of this is contrived. Howie portrays himself as a Washington outsider, a populist from humble roots and an angry crusader for the democrats, upset at the direction of the DLC founded in part by IMPEACHED ex-president Clinton. Funny thing though is Howie "Nikita" Dean's staff and advisors is heavily made up of former Clintonistas.

Now then, on to this week's Republicandy, country songstress Sara Evans. With beauty like this, is it any wonder why I prefer country music?
